COURSE DESCRIPTION
The ISO 14001 Foundation training course introduces participants to the fundamental concepts of an Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO 14001:2015. Over two intensive days, you will learn the structure of the standard, the principles of environmental management, and the role of the EMS in helping organizations protect the environment, comply with legal obligations and continually improve their environmental performance.
The course is designed for professionals who are starting their journey with ISO 14001, members of environmental, HSE and quality departments, management representatives and anyone involved in supporting or implementing an EMS. After completing the training, you may sit for the exam and apply for the “PECB Certificate Holder in ISO 14001 Foundation” credential, demonstrating that you understand the fundamental methodologies, requirements, framework and management approach of ISO 14001.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Describe the main environmental management concepts, principles, and definitions;
- Explain the main ISO 14001:2015 requirements for an Environmental Management System (EMS);
- Identify approaches, methods, and techniques used for the implementation and management of an EMS;
- Recognize environmental aspects, impacts, risks and opportunities relevant to an organization;
- Understand the process approach and the PDCA cycle applied to environmental management.
PREREQUISITES
None. The course is suitable for newcomers without prior environmental management experience.

Day 1: Introduction to the Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 14001
- Section 1: Training course objectives and structure;
- Section 2: ISO 14000 family of standards and regulatory frameworks;
- Section 3: Fundamental concepts and principles of environmental management;
- Section 4: Environmental Management System (EMS) — scope, boundaries and applicability;
- Section 5: Overview of ISO 14001:2015 requirements — clauses 4 to 10;
- Section 6: Understanding the organization, its context and the needs of interested parties.
Day 2: Implementing an EMS and the certification exam
- Section 7: Leadership, environmental policy and organizational roles;
- Section 8: Planning — environmental aspects, compliance obligations, risks and opportunities;
- Section 9: Support, resources, competence and documented information;
- Section 10: Operational planning, control and emergency preparedness;
- Section 11: Performance evaluation, internal audit and management review;
- Section 12: Improvement, corrective actions and preparation for the certification audit;
- Exam: “PECB Certified ISO 14001 Foundation”.
